The Chargers' Needs

In the National Football League the off-season is still going strong, but is slowly starting to wind down towards the NFL draft which is on the 30th of this month. Each team is frantically trying to negotiate for players to fill the open spots or weak spots they have from the end of the most recent season. This team that I will obviously focus on is the San Diego Chargers who seem to have quite a bit going on this off-season with the possible chance of having their home stadium moved out of the city, losing their star running back Ryan Mathews to the Philadelphia Eagles and now potentially losing their long-time starting quarterback Philip Rivers. What I think this team needs to focus on is filling in positions that are not as strong as they should be and the stadium rumors should not be bother because for sure this year they will be playing in San Diego and the chances of them making a new stadium isn't going to happen for awhile because two other teams want to move into the Los Angeles area too, so there won't be any deals made for awhile. Another rumor is the chance of their longtime quarter back being traded for a second round pick to get a rookie quarterback. I believe the Chargers should keep their starting quarterback because he is a decent quarterback the only argument that I can think of is his age which is 33, but there are many that are in their late 30s and are still going strong. What they should invest their first round pick on is a running back such as Melvin Gordon or Tod Gurley who are ranked very high as a draft prospect. Last year the Chargers linemen also struggled with injuries and this off-season they brought in some big names like Orlando Franklin and King Dunlap so, that was something a lot of Chargers fans can cheer about. I believe that if the Chargers bring in a decent running back, the next season should be a good one for them.

San Diego Charger's Stadium: To Keep or Relocate?

Lately it seems that sports stadiums have been popping up left and right. These stadiums cost millions to billions of dollars yet teams seem to build them even though some of their stadiums are still pretty recent. In the NFL alone there have been 14 new stadiums built since the year 2000 and more are on the way. The team that is to be focused on is the San Diego Chargers who are planning to construct a new stadium and there has been arguments as to where it will be built. Fans that live in San Diego want the new stadium built where their current stadium is now to keep traditions and memories associated with their old one, but there has been talk that it will be built in Carson, California and shared with their rivals the Oakland Raiders and the fans disagreed with this and even petitioned the stadium relocation. In this group of petitioners former Chargers player Nick Hardwick supported the idea of keeping it in San Diego. I am all about traditions and keeping memories alive, but they have to think about how much money it is going to cost the city and its citizens if it were to build a new one to replace the old one. Homes in San Diego are already expensive for the most part and with a new stadium means way higher taxes. The new stadium to be built in Carson will be financed by both the Chargers and Raiders. There has also been talk that the investment company Goldman Sachs would help finance the new stadium if it gets moved to Carson. So, fans have to think are some traditions and memories worth the extra money or not? Some would say yes and others no. It will be interesting to hear about what happens when the decision is made.
